(Press Release) Largo, FLA — September 6, 2024 — Pinellas Education Foundation proudly hosted its annual ChangeMakers Breakfast, a celebration of those who believe in the power of education and share the vision of preparing every student for life after high school. The event, which highlights the impactful work being done to accelerate academic achievement in Pinellas County, underscores the message that investing in education is an investment in the future prosperity of our community.
During the event, three distinguished awards were presented to local leaders who are driving change and making a significant difference in education:
- Beth Rawlins was honored as the 2024 Champion of Education for her 20+ years of dedication as an advocate for the Pinellas County Schools Referendum tax. Her tireless efforts have been instrumental in supporting and advancing public education across the county.
- Michael Feeney, Pinellas County Schools Executive Director of Elementary Education, received the 2024 Impact and Innovation Award for his innovative work in early literacy, which has significantly improved outcomes for elementary students. His leadership and unending commitment to fostering strong foundational learning has had a lasting impact on student success.
- Shy’Yonna P., a Pinellas County Schools Class of 2024 graduate and Take Stock in Children Alumna, was recognized with the 2024 ChangeMaker Award for her remarkable accomplishments as a student leader and her role in creating positive change within her school, family and community.
The event, sponsored by DITEK and Duke Energy, served as an inspiring reminder of how collaboration and support from local businesses and organizations are key to building a strong education system. Through their partnerships, Pinellas Education Foundation continues to drive excellence within Pinellas County Schools, which recently earned an “A” rating as a district — a testament to the collective efforts of all stakeholders.
